The Patek Philippe Aquanaut 5065J, also known as the "Jumbo," was released shortly after the initial limited models of the Aquanaut collection. This model showcases an upgraded 315 SC caliber and a larger case diameter of 38 mm, which is an improvement from the original 36 mm. The 5065J has a notable enhancement with the sapphire display case-back, giving a view of the watch's intricate movement instead of the solid case-backs found in earlier versions.
With its design inspired by the legendary Nautilus, the Aquanaut brings a fresh take on classic elements, including the distinctive octagonal, rounded bezel. The watch displays a remarkable level of finishing, featuring brushed surfaces on the case front and polished, beveled edges. With its exquisite yellow gold craftsmanship, this timepiece boasts a three-piece case that offers water resistance up to 120 meters.
Additionally, a screw-down crown enhances its security. The black checkerboard dial of the 5065J complements the texture of the rubber strap, resulting in a cohesive and visually appealing design. The dial features gold-applied numerals and luminous tritium material that has developed a lovely, creamy tone over time, adding to its vintage charm.
The 5065J houses the self-winding caliber 315 SC, which was initially introduced in 1984. This movement is highly regarded for its exceptional precision and unwavering reliability. It boasts 29 jewels, a straight-line lever escapement, a shock absorber mechanism, a self-compensating flat balance spring, and a monometallic balance that is meticulously adjusted to withstand cold, heat, isochronism, and five different positions.
The solid gold rotor is beautifully adorned with circular Geneva stripes, showcasing the timeless elegance that is synonymous with Patek Philippe. The specifications of the 5065J emphasize its luxurious and sturdy design. The 38mm case is crafted from yellow gold, just like the bezel and band.
The band also includes a folding clasp for secure and convenient fastening. The black dial is shielded by a sapphire crystal, guaranteeing long-lasting resilience and crystal-clear visibility.
